Evidence-Based
Functional Family Therapy (FFT)
A proven, strengths-based program that helps families reconnect, rebuild trust, and move forward together.
*FFT is a Department of Juvenile Justice-funded program. Currently, referrals can only come from DJJ.
WHAT IS FUNCTIONAL FAMILY THERAPY?
Designed for adolescents ages 11–18 and their families, Functional Family Therapy (FFT) supports those struggling with behavior issues, family conflict, or involvement in the justice or child welfare system.
Research has demonstrated FFT helps youth stay in school, promotes earlier cessation of drug and alcohol use, reduces disruptive behaviors, and establishes more pro-social and functional behaviors.
FFT starts with one simple belief: every family has the potential to grow and heal.
Therapists work with families to modify family communication, train family members to negotiate effectively, and set clear rules about privileges and responsibilities.
WHAT MAKES FFT DIFFERENT
IT'S FAMILY-FOCUSED
FFT works with the whole family, not just the teenager, to address the root causes of conflict and build healthier patterns.
IT'S FLEXIBLE AND SUPPORTIVE
Sessions happen in the home or community, in a way that respects each family’s culture, values, and goals.
IT'S PROVEN TO WORK
FFT has decades of research showing it reduces re-offending, improves communication, and keeps families together.

IS FFT RIGHT FOR MY FAMILY?
FFT can help when:
-
Arguments at home feel constant and exhausting.
-
A teen is acting out, withdrawing, or heading down a risky path.
-
Parents feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure of what to do next.
-
A family wants to change, but isn’t sure where to start.
Functional Family Therapy gives families the tools to not only overcome current challenges but to grow stronger for the future. With FFT, healing is possible, connection is restored, and hope comes home again.
